24 Peaks In 24 Hours Challenge

Our most demanding Lakeland challenge for ultra fit groups!

Our 24 Peaks in 24 hours Challenge was launched in 2016 and is undoubtedly our toughest Lake District event. Our inaugural event was completed by a team who were exceptionally fit in under 20 hours. As a result of this outstanding achievement we now offer this event over a single day subject to thorough vetting of the fitness level and ability of the group. As a one day challenge the combined walking distance of 51km will push your mental and physical strength to the limit! This is a tough challenge that will test your endurance and strength and requires exceptional fitness and stamina to compete with minimal recovery time between legs 1 and 2. Set in the stunningly beautiful Lake District National Park you will climb 24 peaks within 24 hours, encountering difficult terrain, lengthy descents and steep ascents along the way. This event should not be underestimated and is ideally suited to individuals with prior experience of long distance mountain walks. Why not challenge yourself and a team of colleagues with this exciting 24 Peaks event which provides an excellent platform for both team building and/or charity fundraising.

We recommend that leading up to this challenge, participants work on building up their stamina with weekly cardio-vascular exercise of a minimum of 1 hour per day, 5 days per week to build up their calf + quad muscles. If you do not have much experience of long distance mountain walks you need to prepare with training walks on broken rough terrain building up to 12-15 hours walking time. From an average fitness start point it is likely you will need to commit to a minimum 6 month fitness programme to maximise your chance of success. We can help you prepare for this event – for  information about our  pre-selection / training day click here.

Duration: 1 Day – up to 24 hours

Activities: Walking

Suitable for: Committed teams with a high level of fitness and determination.

Comments: Our toughest challenge which is a strenuous undertaking over a 24 hour timeframe. All prospective teams are thoroughly vetted for suitability and we reserve the right to revert to a 2 day challenge in the event of a slow time on leg 1 – Buttermere to Langdale. Target time: Circa 20 hours overall with a 10 hour objective on first leg with short interval – in transit prior to starting leg 2. The arduous nature of this event over a single day should not be under-estimated and presents a substantial step up from our 24 Peaks over 2 days or a National 3 Peaks walking circa 12 hours with 10 hours rest in transit.
