As company founder and born and bred Cumbrian living on the fringe of the Lake District since the 60’s, Tony has witnessed an enormous increase in the numbers of people seeking outdoor adventure and its resultant impact on a hitherto unspoilt landscape. Finding a sustainable solution to this environmental impact is core to the values of the Eco Challenge team. Gone are the days when Wasdale was a backwater offering walkers peace and tranquility away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Nowadays, the pathways around Wasdale like so many other parts of the Lake District, are much-trodden by those seeking to challenge themselves in the great outdoors. Certainly, the Lake District economy is largely centred around tourism which creates jobs for local people. However, a sustainable model is required to protect the environment delivering maximum benefit to local business with minimal impact on communities residing in the region. As an outdoor activity provider we feel it is our responsibility to help protect our unique and world-renowned landscape working alongside established like-minded organisations tending to the needs of a busy National Park.
As a fundamental part of this approach our events are organised along strict guidelines and we donate a percentage of every booking to repairing pathways by Fix the Fells teams. Our business model aims to attract like-minded clients who embrace our philosophy helping to protect our beautiful National Park for future generations. For those seeking to raise money for charity we can guarantee an enjoyable experience with minimal impact whilst actively contributing to the economy of the Lake District. For charity fundraisers our message is simple – you can raise substantial funds for charity whilst enjoying an amazing challenge – just remove the blinkers avoiding the national obsession with the 3 Peaks Challenge!

David moved to the Lake District 10 years ago, inspired from childhood memories of family holidays. Growing up on the edge of the Peak District National Park enabled a life fully immersed in the outdoors from an early age, and now holds the highest UK qualification through Mountain Training – the Mountain Instructor Certificate (MIC), along with paddle sport and mountain biking qualifications, and a full member of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors. Feeling lucky to have had the opportunity to both work and play in areas across the UK, Europe, Norway and New Zealand, including having lead high altitude mountaineering expeditions in Tanzania, The Caucasus mountains of Russia, the Moroccan Atlas, the Nepalese Himalayas, and the Tian Shan Range in Kyrgyzstan, he’s passionate about taking people out into the mountains for their next adventure, weather it be part of a challenge event, teaching them to look after themselves, or an overseas expedition. When not working David can be found climbing, biking, and occasionally skiing. Living near Kendal in the South of the Lake District, he enjoys sharing life with his partner and son.
