The Classic Summits & Cycling Challenge involves two big days out exploring the mountains of Helvellyn and Blencathra. Your base is the Lodore Falls Hotel in the heart of the stunning Borrowdale valley. Our first day goal is the exposed ridges of the eastern approach to Helvellyn and we travel there and back by bike. The second day has options of either a bike ride or a hill walk, depending on your preference. The activities of Day 1 are expected to take around 10 hours whilst Day 2 has an earlier finish usually around 2pm.
We recommend that in the lead-up to this challenge, participants work on building up their stamina with weekly cardio-vascular exercise of a minimum of 1 hour per day, 5 days per week to build up their calf + quad muscles. In addition, they should be doing a regular bike ride at least every couple of weeks building up to 50 miles circa 4 to 5 hours. We can help you prepare for this event – for information about our pre-selection / training day click here.

Our trip back to Lodore Falls continues the road circumnavigation of Helvellyn via the stiff pull up the Kirkstone Pass, the steep descent to Ambleside down The Struggle, and the scenic, more mellow, return route of Dunmail Raise and the Thirlmere shore road..

The cycling option targets are:
Distance, 50 miles. Target time, 5 hours. Terrain, mixed B and A roads.
Stage 4 takes place on Day 2

Distance, 4.5 miles. Target time, 4 hours. Terrain, challenging and rough mountain paths.
Duration: 2 Days
Activities: Cycling, Walking and Scrambling
Suitable for: Private or corporate teams looking for a charity fundraiser, personal development and/or team building event.
Comments: An exciting 2 day event launched in 2016 which requires a level of cycling proficiency on tarmac; however, participants do not require prior mountain walking experience. A mid-level challenge suitable for larger mixed ability groups offering an activity choice on the fore-shortened second day. This event has proven very popular with many of our corporate clients and participants have the option of supplying their own bikes.
