Our Lakeland Adventure Challenge offers a thrilling all day experience packed with adrenaline! No prior experience is necessary and it is suitable for mixed ability groups; however, participants require a head for heights and should come with an open attitude to the challenges presented on a fun day in the Lakes! The event is ideally suited to the summer months with maximum daylight hours and we offer a triathlon-style programme of diverse activities over an extended day – circa 10 hours overall.
We recommend that in the lead-up to this challenge, participants work on building up their stamina with weekly cardio-vascular exercise of a minimum of 1 hour per day, 5 days per week to build up their calf + quad muscles. We can help you prepare for this event – for information about our pre-selection / training day click here.
Check into your accommodation in Keswick followed by early evening team briefing. Alternatively, we can arrange transfers from Penrith Rail Station.
Located on the side of Honister Pass and above the beautiful valley of Buttermere this is a truly unique experience. We highly recommend this activity for groups seeking excitement and something a little out of the ordinary.
There are two different courses to test yourself on – the ‘Classic’ course which follows the ancient miner’s cliff-edge footpath high on Fleetwith Pike, or the ‘Xtreme’ course which offers a more full-on experience!! This includes the “Burma Bridges” which is a wire bridge suspended 2,000 feet above the Valley floor and a 66foot vertical cargo net to finish off!
After completing the Via Ferrata Classic or Extreme we have a short break and then start the walking leg of the challenge. For most of the route we are presented with easy open terrain and our first summit at Dale Head is reached in about 40 mins. From this lofty vantage point we have a superb panoramic view towards Newlands Valley and the Skiddaw massif within relatively close distance. After a short breather at the beautifully crafted summit cairn we then make our way to our second summit at Hindscarth before descending via some scrambly sections to Newlands Church. Minibus transfer to the parking area close to Stoneycroft Ghyll.
Alternatively, the group can opt out of the walking leg, enjoy an extended lunch at Honister and transfer directly to Stoneycroft. This decision will be taken in consultation with the group based on fitness, prevailing weather and available daylight hours.
Our final activity is a little like our first with a dash of adrenaline rush to round off your adventure day! Our Stonycroft Ghyll scramble is one of the most popular outdoor activities in the Lake District, and involves descending a mountain stream under the safe guidance of our experienced instructors. The descent which includes slides, dives and jumping down waterfalls is guaranteed to have you buzzing with adrenalin by the finish. Throughout the day your instructors will ensure your safety, maximising your enjoyment of a truly unique Lakeland experience!
On completion we transfer by minibus to your accommodation in Keswick.
